Well, this was a frustrating task! It took me quite some time to figure out how I needed to proceed. I am a visual learner, so sometimes reading instructions, whether in the modules or online "do it yourself...it's easy", step by step instructions can very daunting for me. I tried unsuccessfully several times to post a vodcast at first and then gave up. I contribute this failure to my less than desirable internet service, which on a good day is still not very good. My video would get to 40% and then would time out. I then decided to try my luck at a podcast. The Gcast site that is mentioned in the module instructions is no longer accepting new subscribers, so I searched around and found Gabcast.com. After creating an account and paying $10.00 for 100 minutes I recorded and published my podcast via my home telephone. I had no idea that was even possible and was intrigued with the idea even though I was not too excited about speaking and putting it on my blog for folks to listen to. The process was fairly easy to do. You just have to put in your basic information, create a screen name and a channel list, which is quick and easy to do. There is icon that you click to purchase minutes on the right corner of the page. Also, on the right side there is a list of phone numbers...just select the appropriate one and dial! The recording will walk you through the process and you can even listen to your recording before you decide to publish it or not (FYI...you will be charged for those minutes used while listening to your own recording as well for the time it took to record your message). I struggled to come up with something to talk about for awhile until I realized I was running out of time and I had other homework to do! I decided to share my philosophy on education, an assignment I am working on for another class. I was hoping that I might get some constructive criticism on the subject, as we all seem to be elementary education majors and I thought you all could provide helpful feedback. Meanwhile, my husband compressed the groundhog clip on my labtop and I was able to upload the smaller file(I will have to have him show me how to do that). I decided to go ahead with both tasks since this class is all about learning new things. Oh, the clip was taken on my phone in Punxsutawney, PA this past Groundhog Day and if you did not hear the news, I am sure you guessed that he saw his shadow with all the snow...so six more weeks of winter! There was over 20,000 people there at 6:00 a.m., many of which had been there since 3 or 4. I myself arrived at Gobbler's Knob at 4 a.m. and the temperature was a blistery 4 degrees. There were still bus loads of people arriving up until 7 a.m., until Punxsutawney Phil made his prediction at around 7:15 a.m. or so. Just wanted folks to appreciate how others celebrate Groundhog Day!
This is really cool! I too had trouble with podcasting at first but glad we both finally got it figured out. Your information is very helpful to others who don't know how to do this. Good work
